On 10 September 2026, members of the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor, successfully organised the DIGIN 2026 – Digital Inclusion in the Information Society workshop. The hybrid event brought together more than 150 participants – approximately 50 on-site and 100 online – and provided an opportunity for engaging discussions, experience-sharing, and diverse perspectives on digital accessibility and inclusion.
A particular highlight of the event was the invited lecture by Susanna Laurin, Chair of the Funka Foundation, who explored the current European digital accessibility landscape and highlighted the importance of moving “from ambition to action.”
The round table Digital Inclusion in Slovenia: From Challenges to Solutions brought together different perspectives on accessibility and digital inclusion – from universities, students, persons with disabilities, organisations, and the wider digital society. The discussion particularly highlighted the importance of involving users and different stakeholders in the design of accessible digital environments, services, and technologies.
The programme also featured student presentations showcasing innovative ideas and solutions, demonstrating how technology, creativity, and an understanding of users’ needs can contribute to a more inclusive digital future. The workshop concluded with the presentation of the DIGIN 2026 Best Paper Award to Tamara Belec and Vanja Kiswarday for their paper Conceptual Design of a Platform for Employing People with Disabilities.
