Project summary

The project aims to support higher education institutions in responsibly and effectively integrating Artificial Intelligence into teaching, learning, and institutional processes. Recognizing the growing influence of AI on academia, the project provides tools, methodologies, and a structured framework to guide universities in adopting AI in ethical, pedagogically sound, and strategically meaningful ways.

The EHEAII project addresses key challenges in European higher education, where AI offers significant opportunities but clear guidance for its use is still lacking. By developing practical instruments, enhancing staff competences, and strengthening institutional strategies, the project helps universities navigate digital transformation. A central focus is maintaining balance—ensuring that AI enhances learning while preserving vital human abilities such as critical thinking, analysis, and creativity.

UM FERI activities

UM FERI participates in the project by leading the implementation of Work Package WP3, within which it systematically collects and analyses best practice examples, conducts literature review, and carries out interviews, based on which a conceptual framework will be developed. As a supporting partner, it participates in Work Package WP2, contributing to the development of best practice examples and the maturity test for higher education institutions. Within WP4, it contributes to the design of the structure of the educational program and the definition of key knowledge and skills, supports the preparation of teaching materials and the Trainers’ Handbook, and is involved in the pilot testing of the program as well as in local trainings in Slovenia.
